WhatsApp has become an integral part of all of our lives and the icing on the top of the cake is that it is a free application. Now the million dollar question s that arise here are that how this application is free and how it earns money? To gain a better hold on the knowledge regarding this affair we need to have
a fairly good enough concept about the revenue models that they are following. WhatsApp makes money mainly fro m two sources which are WhatsApp for business API and WhatsApp advertisements.
The WhatsApp for business is primarily a free application which is basically used for business purposes, as the name suggests, by producing product catalogues an d providing customer support. But WhatsApp has a look over the service through the WhatsApp for business API. After its launch
numerous big companies including Uber, Netflix, etc. started testing its service. At this point the service charges from its consumers either for replying late or when one s usage frequency increases its threshold. In case of the former the charge is usually placed if the reply is not given within 24 hours and the amount of the charge varies from countries to countries . This’ll also in turn help to maintain a healthy business workflow and relationship. Next comes the WhatsApp advertisements.
WhatsApp doesn’t show advertisements directly but after getting tied up with Facebook it s showing its advertisements to their target audiences. And of course yes, WhatsApp charges the companies for whom they advertise.
In the future WhatsApp is considering to earn money by exhibiting advertisements at its status and also through WhatsApp payments and sources even say that it s under the development process. Having high hopes Mark Zuckerberg , at Facebook s Q4 2019 earnings call, said,
“One example we’ve been working on is WhatsApp Payments. You’ll be able to send money as quickly and easily as sending a photo. We got approval to test this with a million people in India back in 2018, and when so many of the people kept using it week after week, we knew it was going to be big when we get to launch. I’m really excited about this and I expect this to start rolling this out in a number of countries and for us to make a lot of progress here in the next six months.”
It surely seems that WhatsApp is going to make much more remarkable changes and additions in their business models to progress in their field and to flourish more.
